If you are a professional plumber I guess you won't need to read this, but for the rest of us who are homeowners, it's important to stay up on the latest innovations in plumbing and plumbing supplies -- if for no other reason than to be a more knowledgeable buyer of these products.
Of course some plumbing supplies are not cheap -- their purchase represents a significant investment. For example, good-quality faucets and shower fixtures can cost you some serious money -- but if you will check out a reputable manufacturer you will see that this extra expense is more than amply compensated for by the many more years of service you will get from this equipment.
As an example, Kohler plumbing fixtures are extremely beautiful -- some of them have the appearance of a fine work of art -- yet they are designed for decades of trouble-free, constant use. In fact, many homes have Kohler plumbing fixtures still operational -- which were installed from the very beginning of that homes' existence!
Of course, quality plumbing products don't have to be expensive -- you can purchase the "little things" as well. A good example of this would be PVC plumbing fittings. Depending on the size and type, these PVC plumbing fittings may cost you anywhere from $.50 to a few dollars -- not much money at all -- yet reliable and hard-wearing PVC plumbing fittings can mean the difference between success and failure with your next plumbing project.
Some plumbing supplies and equipment are designed to solve specific problems or meet specific needs. For example, sump pumps are designed specifically for the continual absorption of accumulated water in damp basements or garage areas. Because continual operation of your sump pump may be a critical need, battery backup sump pump systems utilizing one or more 12-volt sump pump batteries are available for purchase. These units will provide a continuous power source for your sump pump, to prevent water from backing up in your basement (due to a nonfunctioning sump pump) because of a power failure.
Another area within plumbing that has undergone revolutionary changes in recent decades is hot water heater technology. Homeowners have many more options in choosing a residential hot water heater system today than they have ever had before. For example, new energy-efficient tankless hot water heaters are available which can dramatically decrease home energy fuel costs.
And for larger homes who need to supplement their main hot water supply system, smaller point of use water heaters (sometimes called instant hot water heaters) can be installed in just about any location, even under the smallest sink in a very confined area. With this newer technology, no longer is it necessary to heat water in large quantities, only to keep its sitting in a large tank until it is needed (with consequent energy lost due to cooling). With these newer tankless hot water heater systems you have an endless supply of hot water -- for as long as you need it -- simply by turning on your faucet.
So you see, there really has been quite a development in the science of plumbing, and plumbing supplies and appliances -- so we hope you will take the time to explore our site and read our articles and product reviews -- they are jam-packed with all sorts of important information that every homeowner should know.

We installed an instant hot water heater in both bathrooms and one in the kitchen. This is saving us tons of money on our water bill since we no longer have to run the water for a long time waiting for it to warm up.

Thanks for the information about the instant hot water heaters. I will likely install one soon. I just wanted to say that I agree with what you said about Kohler faucets. I have had mine for ovr ten years now and have no trouble at all.

I wish I had found this site last year when I chose a faucet for my sink. It lasted until yesterday. My husband took everything apart and found that its going to need a part that costs more than a new faucet. This time I'm going to buy a good quality faucet.

I am really proud of the fact that I was able to replace my kitchen faucet on my own. I didn't want to pay the hire prices charged by a plumber so I followed some simple instructions that made it easy to do the installation myself.

I am certainly fortunate that my husband is really handy around the house. We have several instant hot water heaters that are wonderful that he installed with ease.
